OM617, Good years for swap motor? Hello All, New to the forum, and to diesels. I am researching the best year OM617 for a swap into a Toyota land cruiser, and here is what I have found so far: This engine was offered (in the US) in the 300SD models from '79 to '85, and the model number for these engines ranged from the OM617.950 - .952.

Jun 18, 2012 · I think if the only thing changed is the engine (keeping the 4 spd behind the 617), your MPG would not be what it was with the 4 cyl. I am not familiar with the OM617 numbers, but if it is a turbo, you would need to change the rear end ratio (higher=lower numerically) to get anything close to 30 MPG. The factory bell-housing will accept the OM617 and all the clutch stuff will swap right over. The issue is cab clearance which is why the aftermarket bell house is made. It's slight rotation of the engine allows it to fit with very little deformation of the factory 404 cab.Oct 2, 2016 · The mbz om617.950 motor is already a huge improvement, by huge i mean costs less than rebuilding the 230, add to that todays fuels and oils with all the additives needed that i cant buy in California, diesel just seems best option and om617 is very similar in size, weight and power output plus fuel is cheapest with 2x better mpg. If you have adjusted the governor internally, the torque control capsule is adjusted too much. Return it to the factory position and don't adjust it further than 1/2 turn. If the pump has not been modified, you have engine mechanical issues or the pump is installed with incorrect timing. I haven't adjusted anything.To max out the stock set up you might want to hook up a Pressure Gauge to your Intake Manifold and see how much boost your Turbo is giving. I believe the max stock boost is 12 psi. After that is adjusting the ALDA. The ALDA limits the max available Fuel when there is no boost pressure from the Turbo.
